5th-8th Grade Teams
For the 2018/19 season, Norwalk Youth Travel Basketball Association ("Norwalk Youth") expects to field four boys travel basketball teams in the Fairfield County Basketball League, one for each grade level 5 through 8. Each team will be composed of no more than 12 players.

4th Grade Developmental Team

This team will focus on developing the skills necessary to play travel basketball. The team will consist of 12-14 players and will play ~15-20 games vs other 4th grade travel programs, as well as inter-team games. The team will practice twice a week for 90 minutes and all players will receive Norwalk Youth apparel including Adidas game uniform, shooter shirt and practice revesible.  The cost of this program will be $225 per player, which is well under the operation cost per player (fundraising contributes highly to cost per player)

Player Eiligibility

Per FCBL eligibility rules, all players trying out for a Norwalk Youth Basketball team must reside in the boundaries of Norwalk, or they must be a student in the public school system of Norwalk.

Tryouts are open to all Norwalk boys in grades 5 through 8.  Players are highly encouraged to attend each tryout session, although it is not required.  A third tryouts may be held, if necessary.

There is no cost to try out and all players will be asked directly if they are committed to participating if chosen.

For each team, the plan is to schedule approximately 15 – 25 games from mid-November through early March. Games will take place as follows:
Home Games- Chelsea Piers, Stamford, CT
Away Games-Will be played at various locations throughout Fairfield County on Saturdays and/or Sundays
Each team will practice twice a week for 1:30 to 1:45 hours.

Practice slots are 6pm to 7:30 and 7:30 to 9:00pm.
Commitment and Attendance

Players are required to make a commitment to travel basketball ahead of all other sports or non-school extra-curricular activities.

Coaches will track player attendance at all practices and games. After one unexcused absence, the players playing time may be decreased at the discretion of the coach.  After three unexcused absences, the player could be subject to loss of playing privileges.
An absence from a practice, clinic or game is excused with advance notification to the coach of injury/illness, bereavement, conflict with religious, school or family function. A player will not be excused for conflicts with other sports (after the end of football and soccer season – around Mid-November) or activities, including homework that can be done before practice or games.

Playing Time
Playing time will be based on: performance, effort and commitment level, sportsmanship, teamwork and coachability. Playing time will not be distributed equally and there are no minimum playing time rules. Questions regarding individuals playing time should be directed to the Commissioner of the Norwalk Youth.  Questions should not be directed to the coaches.
Player and Parent Agreement
Players selected to participate in the program, along with that player’s parents or guardian, will be required to sign an agreement acknowledging their understanding of the terms set forth above. Each family will also be encouraged to volunteer for an activity or responsibility that will benefit and improve each child's experience playing for Norwalk Youth Basketball.

The cost of the program per player this season is $425 for grades 5-8 and $225 for grade 4.  For students who qualify for the Norwalk Public School Free and Reduced lunch program the cost will be $125. It costs Norwalk Youth over $600 per player and our fundraising activities fund the balance between the actual cost.
